Alexandra Headland SLSC is a community of people who come together to keep our beach safe, support our members and give back to the community. We offer many opportunities to be involved.
Our next courses are the Surf Rescue Certificate and the Bronze Medallion. These are different courses we run at the same time. If you are thinking about getting involved, explore the two courses below and choose the one that is right for you.
Surf Rescue Certificate Saturdays 24th October – 14th November 730am-3pm
If you already hold and SRC you may be eligible to complete the transition pathway to the Bronze Medallion (see below).
Surf Rescue Certificate (SRC)
The SRC is a great starting point for members who want to get involved in surf lifesaving and build their skills. The SRC allows you to:
- Take on a water safety role, such as supporting nippers
- Join a patrol
- Progress to the bronze medallion when you are ready
Minimum age 13 years. Be able to swim 200m in under 5 minutes (this is observed on day 1).

The Bronze Medallion is the award you need to become a qualified surf lifesaver. With your bronze medallion you can:
- Perform in the role of a qualified surf lifesaver on patrol and water safety
- Compete in surf sports events where the Bronze is a pre-requisite
- Continue your development through the aquatic rescue and power craft pathways
Minimum age 15 years. Be able to swim 400m in under 9 minutes (this is observed on day 1).

Transition Pathway for SRC award holders
If you already hold an SRC and would like to progress to the full Bronze you can enrol into the transition course. Minimum age 15 years. Be able to swim 400m in under 9 minutes which must be provided to your trainer prior to starting the course. Course dates Saturdays 14th, 21st & 28th November 730am – 3pm.
Upon successful completion of the Surf Rescue Certificate (SRC), members will have completed around half of the content of the Bronze Medallion (BM). Members who are proficient in their SRC can transition to their BM and receive recognition for the skills and knowledge that they have already gained and maintained.
The transition pathway is available for SRC holders who:
- Have completed their SRC within 3 years prior to commencing the BM
- Are proficient in their SRC
- Are confident in their abilities in radio and rescue operations
Keen to start?
You will require the following:
- Be a financial member of Alexandra Headland SLSC
- Be 13 years or older (SRC) or 15 years or older (BM)
- Hold a valid Blue Card if 18+ years and completed an online Child Safety course
Please contact the office if you need help with any of the above or email amy@alexsurfclub.com.au
How to enrol into a course (existing members)
- Log into SLS Hub account and Open eLearning.
- Select the Aquatic Rescue tile
- Search for Alexandra Headland
- Select ENROL for the course you’d like to do
- A confirmation email will be sent to you (check your spam/junk folder)
- After acceptance into the course, you will be prompted to create an aXcelerate. From here you can do the pre-course online theory work required. Your trainer will provide you with more information.
If you are enrolling in a Bronze Medallion or Surf Rescue Certificate course it is highly recommended to do a practice swim before you start training so you know you will be able to pass your pool proficiency (BM – 400m in 9mins or less, SRC – 200m in 5mins or less). This will be assessed on the first day of the course and successful completion is required to continue with the course.
